#1 KORA SHRINE CIRCUS
Prior to the show there was a false fire alarm that was set off. Everyone had to avac the building and now had to wait to re-enter the building.
Brian Franzen Elepants waiting to go into the arena to perform.
As the finale ends. Tina Winn and Johnny Rocket takes their bows on the cybercycle platform.
#2 ANAH SHRINE CIRCUS
I found out about this show performing thru a write-up in the Bangor Daily News about the State Of Maine not allowing one of the 2 elephants to come into Maine because it did not pass one of the test that had been performed on the elephants for TB. This test is not accurate but Maine officials says it is.
When I arrived on the lot the afternoon show was just letting out. Not to many coming out. During the time between shows I walked around and what I saw was the admission price. We are in Maine and the economy is bad but a $38 price is out of reach of most Mainers for an outdoor tented show.
Normally I would pay this price but I decided not to as I was low on funds as I was headed to Florida to pick a car up and drive it back to Maine.
The lot was nice looking and clean with an outstanding tent. The only thing was the semi-tractors needed to be painted along with some trailers.
I spotted a show car and a sign with a picture of my friend Jack "Cookie" Cook who has not been on the show for over a year as one of the workers told me. During this time, customers were coming up to the ticket trailer and once they found out the price they would walk. Some of them stayed around their cars talking before leaving. There was two to three times the amount of people who walked instead of paying to see the evening show.
A view of the camels and ponies that perform in the show. As the show started I left without seeing the performance.
#4 KELLY MILLER CIRCUS
#5 FLYING PAGES
SOUTH BEND, IN
#6 ROYAL HANNEFORD
DES MOINES, IA
By far the best small circus presentation so far this year was the Royal Hanneford Circus 15th year at the Adventureland Amusement park outside of DesMoines, Iowa. This show is produced and directed by Billy Martin.
Singing Ringmaster Billy Martin started the 30 minute show off, (which performs 3 times aday at the park from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year) with Quick change of Dulce & Benito. The newest QC act in the nation today that I have scene in years. A great job by Benito and Dulce. It was the artistry of Angela on the single trapeze. Angela is sensational in her performance.
The Fernando's (Adilson & Gilda) on the Wheel of Destiny was next. A fantastic presentation. Rounding out the show was Benito and his fast pace juggling of clubs, rings, ping pong balls and hats. Than it was the finale of everyone taking their bows. 4 great acts in 30 minutes. Music was on tape with Alex Hilton on drums. A great solo by Alex was in the show when he was introduced. Also what made this show so great was the lights and sound was excellant, but the ring was elevated which made this presentation even classier than just being flat on the ground.
#7 FLYING PAGES
The set up of the Flying Pages was at one end of the fairgrounds and Miss Mercedes and Rob Donner had their part of the show set-up by the animal barnes. This was a great area to perform in with this part of the show. I left prior to the aerial show as I was performing about 60 miles away.
#8 CIRCUS WORLD MUSEUM
Some of the many circus wagons and loaded on train cars set-up on display in the Wagon Building.
An old Human Cannon.
#9 CIRCUS CITY FESTIVAL CIRCUS
Circus Wagons were on display around the Circus City Festival Circus Building in downtown Peru, Indiana.
A young wagon painter was working on one of the wagon wheels when I was there.
By the way I mist the second circus in town as I spent too much time in Ft Wayne at the carnival lot earlier in the day.
#10 CARSON BARNES
#11 BIG APPLE CIRCUS
LAKE GEORGE, NY
#12 ZERBINI FAMILY CIRCUS
During the afternoon I went to the Zerbini Family Circus under Alain's big tent that was set-up in the infield of the race track at the Sunshine Fair in Cobleskill, NY. Each year the circus presentation gets bigger and now has moved to the infield.
The performance went like this Ringmistressand music on tape. It was the Moralis Troup on the low flying act. This was a 3 person act that was well received. Than it was Alain presenting a camel & pony act. Next comes a coloring book pitch. A rolla bolla act came next than a single trap. Alain's Dog Pound Revue was up and Herman balacing knifes on a ladder. Up and over down the other side with the knife in his mouth all the while balancing another on the tip of the blade.
A one of a kind act was next with Alain and his performing Buffalo. Clown whistle pitch was next and the final act of the show was a 2 person lo-wire act. The finale was the return of the stars of the show.
This performance ran 50 minutes. A decent crowd attended as it was located in the infiels with not many many signs directing the customers to the tent. As you entered the big top the concession stand was on your right. A much better show and set-up compared to last years fair.
#13 FLYING PAGES
NEW JERSEY STATE FAIR
#14 ZERBINI FAMILY CIRCUS
#15 GALAXIE GIRL
SANDUSKY COUNTY FAIR
I arrived the day prior to my performance at the Sandusky County Fair in Sandusky, Ohio. To my surprise the Galaxie Girl was performing her show. I watched 2 of the performances. The first one was in the heat of the afternoon which the tempature was in the high 90's. The crowd was much better than South Bend, Ind earlier in the year. But as a true performer she did her trap and sway pole act. And than it was Tina and Johnny Rocket performing on the Cybercycle high in the air.
Tina works her apparatus high in the air opposite the cybercycle of Johnny Rocket.
Johnny Rocket spins the revolving cycle with Tina balancing on the opposite side on her trap.
#16 WALKER BROTHERS CIRCUS
NEW YORK STATE FAIR
#17 FLYING WALLENDA'S
CHAMPLAIN VALLEY FAIR
ESSEX JCT., VT
#18 LAURA HERRIOT'S
VERMONT STATE FAIR
I stopped into the Vermont State Fair at the fairgrounds in Rutland the day before the fair started. New this year was Laura Herriot's Animal Show in place of The Galaxie Girl. I did not get to see her show as she was not performing until the next day.
#19 CIRCUS HOLLYWOOD
VERMONT STATE FAIR
Another show I did not get to see because the fair was not open. It was Serge Coronna's Circus Hollywood that was set-up in the infield of the fair. What a site to see at a fair. Serge had his grindshows set-up on the back side of the racetrack next to the racing pigs.
I planned on seeing the show at the Rochester New Hampshire Fair but never made it because my car broke down.
#20 HANSEN'S SPECTACULAR
#21 ZERBINI FAMILY CIRCUS
#22 ROYAL HANNEFORD CIRCUS
A truly Spectacular Circus inside of the Commercial Building at the Great York Fair in York, PA
A standing room only shows up to 3 times a day with a seating venue of 700+ produced by Billy Martin for the Royal Hanneford Circus.
Some of the acts was Angela on the tramp, Rodger filling in on the trampoline an old slap stick comedy style routine, contossion of two girls getting into a small cube. High wire walking, rolla bolla, juggling. Music was canned and accompanied by Alex Hilton on drums.
#23 ROYAL HANNEFORD CIRCUS
EASTERN STATES EXPOSITION
WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA
On Sunday September 23rd I attended the BIG E's Super Circus 1 PM performance sponsored by Coca-Cola under the Royal Hanneford Big Top to a straw house. Seating was full 30 minutes prior to the show.
This performance of this years presentation was a little slow compared to previous years.
Ringmaster Ty McFarlan presented David Rosaire's Perky Pekes and than it was Dany Daniels & Edina. Grandma came out (Mark Gindirk) the understudy of Barry Lubin with a routine which was the treadmill. To me Mark is much faster than Barry in his walk in his Grandma outfit. It was Duo A & A with Anton and Adam with hand balancing strongman presentation. Once again Grandma returns.
This years performance wa the BIG E THRILL RIDERS in the giant Sphere of Fear. An exciting act of 4 motorcycles in a globe. This was the best globe act that I have scene in a couple of years. As lately the only globe that I have scene are 1 and 2 rider globes which now is real boring to myself.
Either I mist the Marinof's (Gheorge & Luisa or I was a sleep during the show.
Music was presented by musical director Larry Stout and drummer Alex Hilton.
